Earlier Report Observations

The market for unfermented fruit and vegetable juices in Syria expanded rapidly from 2018 to 2020, with volume more than doubling from 33.1 million liters to 77.0 million liters.

A sharp contraction followed in 2021, shrinking the market to 44.1 million liters, after which it stabilized around 42.6–43.7 million liters in 2022–2023. In 2023, a steep rise in food prices, including for fruits and vegetables, raised production costs and altered consumer spending patterns, contributing to a modest 2.4% market volume increase that year.

By 2024, imports of juice ingredients fell 25% to 1.37 million liters, while exports jumped 64% to 1.25 million liters. These shifts coincided with Syria’s ban on importing 15 varieties of vegetables and fruit to boost self‑sufficiency, as well as the introduction of a new tax system and unified customs tariffs in December 2024.
