Earlier Report Observations

The Belgian fruit and vegetable juice market experienced significant volatility from 2018 to 2023. Market volume stood at 229 million liters in 2018, dropped to 174 million liters in 2019, then recovered to 209 million liters in 2020 and peaked at 241 million liters in 2021. This growth was supported by sustained consumer interest in organic and cold-pressed juices, as well as innovations in product formulations.

From 2022 onward, the market entered a contraction phase, falling to 179 million liters in 2022 and 126 million liters in 2023. The primary driver was a sharp increase in costs across the value chain: prices for imported fruit, packaging, energy, and transport rose amid geopolitical tensions and unfavorable weather conditions. At the same time, the trend toward homemade juice preparation gained momentum, reducing demand for ready-made products.

Throughout the period, consumer preferences for natural, local, and additive-free juices exerted a noticeable influence. This stimulated the entry of new players and brands, such as Wonder Lemon launched in 2022. However, cost pressures and shifts in consumer behavior led to an overall market contraction in the last two years.
