The physical volume of the fruit and vegetable juice market in ASEAN grew from 683 million liters in 2018 to a peak of 1 002 million liters in 2020, before receding to 897 million liters by 2023. This surge in 2020 represented a 36% increase from the previous year, marking the highest volume recorded in the period.

In value terms, the market expanded more consistently, rising from $880 million US in 2018 to $1 347 million US in 2023. The market value continued to grow even when volume dipped after 2020, suggesting a shift in product mix or price increases that supported overall revenue.

Domestic production capacity increased substantially, with output rising from 1 293 million liters in 2018 to 1 872 million liters in 2023. This production growth helped meet both rising export demand and domestic consumption, although exports grew faster, reaching 1 120 million liters in 2023.

ASEAN's production of fruit and vegetable juices has grown for the second year in a row. In 2020, the region produced 1 728 million liters, marking a significant 29.3% increase compared to the previous year. Looking at the period from 2017 to 2020, overall production rose by 9.1%, with an average annual growth rate of 3.0%. The lowest production level was recorded in 2018 at 1 293 million liters, which also saw the steepest decline of 18.3% that year.

ASEAN's production of fruit and vegetable juices has increased for the second consecutive year. In 2020, the output was valued at 2 083 million US dollars, up by 24.2% from the year before. Over the 2017-2020 period, production grew by 7.5%, translating to an average annual growth rate of 2.4%. The lowest value was recorded in 2018 at 1 497 million US dollars, which also experienced the largest decline of 22.8%.

After two years of decline, ASEAN's exports of fruit and vegetable juices rebounded. In 2020, exports totaled 919.5 million liters, showing a strong increase of 22.5% compared to the previous year. From 2017 to 2020, exports grew by 10.9%, with an average annual growth rate of 3.5%. The lowest export volume was in 2019 at 750.4 million liters, which also saw the largest decline of 5.0%.

Between 2017 and 2020, the United States, the Netherlands, and China were the main destinations for ASEAN's fruit and vegetable juice exports in volume terms. The United States accounted for 44.8% of exports, the Netherlands for 8.0%, and China for 5.1%. Together, these three countries absorbed 57.9% of total exports.

ASEAN's exports of fruit and vegetable juices have increased for the second year in a row. In 2020, exports amounted to 1 108 million US dollars, rising by 17.7% from 2019. Over the 2017-2020 period, exports grew by 9.2%, equivalent to an average annual rate of 3.0%. The lowest value was recorded in 2018 at 915 million US dollars, which also experienced the largest decline of 9.8%.

From 2017 to 2020, the United States, the Netherlands, and China remained the principal buyers of fruit and vegetable juices from ASEAN in value terms. The United States accounted for 39.0% of exports, the Netherlands for 9.4%, and China for 5.7%. Collectively, these three countries represented 54.1% of total export value.

Imports fruit and vegetable juices to ASEAN

Following two years of decline, ASEAN's imports of fruit and vegetable juices increased. In 2020, imports totaled 159.0 million liters, up by 5.4% year-over-year. However, over the 2017-2020 period, imports decreased by 13.5%, with an average annual decline of 4.7%. The lowest import volume was in 2019 at 150.8 million liters, which also saw the largest decline of 15.7%.

Data from 2017 to 2020 show that ASEAN's imports of fruit and vegetable juices in volume terms were not heavily concentrated. The United States accounted for 10.2% of imports, Brazil for 7.9%, and China for 7.2%. Together, these three countries represented only 25.3% of total import flows.

Over the 2017-2020 period, imports decreased by 9.9%, with an average annual decline of 3.4%. The lowest value was recorded in 2019 at 232 million US dollars, while the highest was in 2018 at 295 million US dollars. The largest decline occurred in 2019, with a drop of 21.5%.
