Slovenia's fruit and vegetable juice market volume increased from 16.8 million liters in 2018 to 18.2 million liters in 2023. After reaching a peak in 2019, the market contracted in 2020 before entering a recovery phase, with steady growth resuming through 2021 and 2022.

The most significant expansion occurred in 2022, when the market grew by 11.6% to 18.2 million liters. This surge was driven by rising health consciousness among consumers, which boosted demand for natural, organic, and cold-pressed juices. At the same time, the growth of online retail and e-commerce channels improved market access and distribution, further stimulating consumption.

By 2023, the market stabilized at 18.2 million liters, indicating a consolidation after the strong growth of the previous year.

Slovenia's production of fruit and vegetable juices has declined for the third year in a row. In 2020, the country produced 3 million liters, marking a modest decrease of 3.2% compared to 2019. Over the period from 2017 to 2020, production fell by 19.1%, with an average annual decline of 6.8%.

Following two years of growth, Slovenia's exports of fruit and vegetable juices declined in volume. In 2020, exports totaled 3 504 thousand liters, down 5.9% from 2019. Over the 2017-2020 period, exports increased by 4.3%, with an average annual growth rate of 1.4%. The peak volume was recorded in 2019 at 3 725 thousand liters, while the largest increase occurred in 2018 at 7.6%.

From 2017 to 2020, the primary buyers of Slovenia's fruit and vegetable juices were Croatia, Serbia, and Bosnia and Herzegovina, accounting for 30.1%, 20.6%, and 17.3% of exports in volume, respectively. Together, these three countries represented 68.0% of total exports.

The value of Slovenia's fruit and vegetable juice exports declined for the second consecutive year. In 2020, exports amounted to 5 269 thousand US dollars, an 11.1% drop from the previous year. The highest value was recorded in 2018 at 6 527 thousand US dollars, with the largest increase also occurring that year at 24.1%.

Between 2017 and 2020, Croatia, Serbia, and Bosnia and Herzegovina were the key partners for Slovenia's fruit and vegetable juice exports in value terms, representing 26.0%, 24.8%, and 22.0% of total exports, respectively. Collectively, they accounted for 72.7% of export flows.

Imports fruit and vegetable juices to Slovenia

After two years of growth, Slovenia's imports of fruit and vegetable juices fell in volume. In 2020, imports totaled 15 652 thousand liters, a significant reduction of 14.5% compared to 2019. The highest volume was recorded in 2019 at 18 316 thousand liters, while the largest increase occurred in 2018 at 9.6%.

From 2017 to 2020, Slovenia's imports of fruit and vegetable juices were sourced from a diverse range of suppliers. Austria, Poland, and Italy were the top contributors, accounting for 22.5%, 12.5%, and 11.6% of imports in volume, respectively. However, together they made up only 46.6% of total imports, with many other countries holding smaller but notable shares.

The value of Slovenia's fruit and vegetable juice imports declined for the second year in a row. In 2020, imports reached 20 592 thousand US dollars, reflecting an 18.4% decrease from 2019. Over the 2017-2020 period, imports decreased by 8.5%, with an average annual decline of 2.9%. The peak value was recorded in 2018 at 25 538 thousand US dollars, with the largest increase also in 2018 at 13.4%.
