Earlier Report Observations

The Vietnamese fruit and vegetable juice market expanded from 80.7 million liters in 2018 to 121.4 million liters in 2020. This growth was primarily fueled by rising consumer interest in healthier beverages, which boosted domestic demand from the outset. The period also saw the entry of numerous new players, increasing competition and broadening the product range available to consumers, while regulatory updates to labeling and self-declaration rules provided a clearer framework for market operations.

After peaking in 2020, the market volume declined to 112.3 million liters in 2021 and dropped sharply to 70.7 million liters in 2022. This contraction occurred despite the expansion of modern retail and e‑commerce channels, which improved product accessibility. A key driver was a substantial rise in exports, which grew from 82.2 million liters in 2021 to 144.7 million liters in 2022, diverting production away from the domestic market. During this period, major international companies like Tipco entered the Vietnamese market, and PepsiCo strengthened its local presence with additional investments in production and distribution.

The market rebounded to 101.4 million liters in 2023. Regulatory developments shaped the landscape, with the Ministry of Health tightening labeling rules to require clear disclosure of ingredients, sugar content, and fruit origin. Simultaneously, the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry proposed distinguishing fruit juices from sugary soft drinks in the draft Special Consumption Tax Law, aiming to exempt healthier products from taxation.
