In 2018, Egypt's fresh grape production reached 1 641 thousand tons, supported by efforts to increase per-acre yield by around 40% and reduce waste to access new export markets. Production then fell to 1 184 thousand tons in 2020, largely due to the global COVID-19 pandemic which disrupted supply chains and demand.

The market recovered in 2021, with production rising to 1 472 thousand tons, driven by increased global demand for high-quality table grapes. Growth continued in 2022, reaching 1 791 thousand tons, as vineyard planting expanded geographically from Alexandria to Aswan, extending the harvest season and improving yield expectations by 20-30%.

In 2023, physical production eased to 1 715 thousand tons, but the market value rose to $4 073 million, reflecting a focus on quality and export markets. The introduction of new varieties and post-harvest techniques, along with support from agricultural quarantine authorities, strengthened Egypt's position in key international markets.

Fresh grape production in Egypt declined for the third consecutive year. In 2020, Egypt produced 1 184 K t of fresh grapes, marking a sharp year-over-year reduction of 25.8%. Over the 2017-2020 period, production decreased by 31.7%, with a compound annual growth rate of -11.9%.

Fresh grape production in Egypt declined for the second consecutive year. In 2020, the output was valued at 2 615 M $ US, equivalent to a 20.5% drop compared to the previous year. Between 2017 and 2020, production decreased by 23.2%, equating to an annualized rate of -8.4%. The maximum value was recorded in 2018 at 3 784 M $ US, which also saw the largest increase of 11.1% during this period.

Exports fresh grapes from Egypt

In 2020, Egypt's cross-border shipments of fresh grapes reached 105.7 K t, a 6.9% decrease from the previous year. Between 2017 and 2020, exports fell by 12.6%, with an annualized rate of -4.4%. The minimum value was recorded in 2018 at 95.1 K t, which also experienced the largest decline of 21.3%. In contrast, the largest increase occurred in 2019, with a 19.4% rise.

From 2017 to 2020, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, and Germany were the main destinations for Egypt's fresh grape exports in kind, accounting for 25.5%, 24.1%, and 9.7% of exports, respectively. Together, these three countries represented 59.4% of total export flows.

In 2020, Egypt's foreign fresh grape supplies amounted to 233.4 M $ US, remaining virtually unchanged from the previous year. The minimum value was recorded in 2018 at 219.3 M $ US, which also saw the largest decline of 7.6%. The largest increase occurred in 2019, with a 6.7% rise.

From 2017 to 2020, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, and Germany continued to lead as the top buyers of fresh grapes from Egypt in value terms, accounting for 25.6%, 24.2%, and 9.7% of exports, respectively. Collectively, they represented 59.5% of total export value.
