Following a peak in 2018, apricot production in Egypt fell by over 20% in 2019 and continued to decline in 2020, reaching a low of 66 thousand tons in 2021. Correspondingly, market volume dropped from 95.5 thousand tons in 2018 to 68.1 thousand tons in 2021.

From 2022 onward, production began to recover, rising to 69 thousand tons and then jumping to 82 thousand tons in 2023. Market size followed this trend, reaching 82.5 thousand tons in 2023, close to the 2018 level. In value terms, the market showed an even stronger increase, exceeding $158.9 million in 2023 compared to $131.4 million in 2018, indicating higher unit prices.

Egypt's apricot production declined for the third consecutive year. In 2020, the country produced 66 280 tons of apricots, marking a significant year-over-year decrease of 13.5%. Between 2017 and 2020, production fell by 31.2%, which translates to an annualized decline rate of 11.7%.

The market exhibited volatility during this period. Egypt's apricot exports reached their highest volume in 2017 and their lowest in 2018, with a 5.4-fold difference between these years.
