By 2023, production expanded substantially to 392.1 thousand tons, allowing the domestic market to recover to 334.8 thousand tons.

Egypt's production of lemons and limes rebounded after a two-year decline. In 2020, the country produced 376.2 thousand tonnes, marking a 20.0% increase from the previous year. Over the period from 2017 to 2020, production grew by 2.9%, averaging an annual growth rate of 1.0%. The lowest production level was recorded in 2019 at 313.5 thousand tonnes, which saw the largest decline of 11.6%.

In 2020, the value of lemons and limes produced in Egypt reached 420.2 million US dollars, reflecting a sharp year-on-year increase of 26.3%. Egypt's exports of lemons and limes increased for the second consecutive year. In 2020, the country exported 39 694 tonnes, up 29.5% from 2019. Between 2017 and 2020, exports grew by 45%, equating to an annualized growth rate of 13.2%. The lowest export volume was recorded in 2018 at 25 059 tonnes, which saw the largest decline of 8.4%.

From 2017 to 2020, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, and Russia remained the primary buyers of Egyptian lemons and limes, accounting for 41.6%, 11.1%, and 7.0% of exports in kind, respectively. Together, these three countries formed 59.7% of total exports in kind.
