Earlier Report Observations

The fresh grapes market in ASEAN experienced significant fluctuations between 2018 and 2023. After a notable contraction to 385 thousand tons in 2019, market volume rebounded strongly to 490 thousand tons in 2020. It then stabilized near 480 thousand tons in 2021 before resuming growth, reaching 515 thousand tons in 2022 and 526 thousand tons in 2023. Early in the period, significant investments in research and development for improved grape varieties and cultivation techniques were made across the Asia-Pacific region, which helped enhance production quality and yield.

The market's consistent expansion from 2022 onward was primarily driven by shifting consumer behavior and demographic trends. Increasing health consciousness and a growing preference for organic fresh grapes spurred demand, while rising population and urbanization in ASEAN countries directly contributed to higher consumption. These factors combined to elevate the total market volume despite some production challenges.
