The wheat bran, sharps and residues market in Vietnam, measured in volume, declined from 1 067 thousand tons in 2018 to 789 thousand tons in 2022, before a partial recovery to 810 thousand tons in 2023. The period began under a national policy focus on agricultural development and food security, which provided a framework for the sector, though concurrent shortcomings in production organization, processing, and quality assurance presented challenges for raw material supply chains.

This contraction in total market volume was driven by a pronounced, steady decrease in imports, which fell from 646 thousand tons to 467 thousand tons, coupled with a gradual decline in domestic production. A significant shift was the rapid expansion of exports, which grew more than twenty-fivefold from 2018 to 2023, diverting product away from the domestic market and further reducing available volume.

In value terms, the market showed greater volatility, rising from $167 million in 2018 to a peak of $191 million in 2022, before falling to $173 million in 2023. This monetary trend, which did not mirror the physical volume decline, indicates changes in unit prices or the mix of products within the market over the period.
