The market for wheat bran, sharps, and residues in Belarus began at 94.5 thousand tons in 2018, underpinned by the development of state-owned agricultural enterprises which boosted grain processing and residue volumes. After a slight dip to 92.1 thousand tons in 2019, the market rebounded to 102.0 thousand tons in 2020 as the COVID-19 pandemic intensified focus on food security, leading to adapted operations and increased utilization of processing by-products.

Following a contraction to 96.5 thousand tons in 2021, the market grew again to 102.9 thousand tons in 2022, driven by industry preparations for a major revision of national waste management legislation, which motivated greater processing of grain residues. The upward trend peaked at 108.8 thousand tons in 2023, supported by a nationwide collection of over 820 thousand tons of secondary material resources, the emergence of new product segments like feed additives from grain waste, and enhanced producer responsibility for waste disposal.

After two years of decline, wheat bran, sharps, and residues production in Belarus increased. In 2020, Belarus produced 105.4 K t of these products, marking a gradual year-on-year gain of 9.2%. Over the 2017-2020 period, production decreased by 4.7%, with a compound annual growth rate of 1.6%. The lowest production level was recorded in 2019 at 96.5 K t, which also saw the largest decline of 10.4%.

The largest decline occurred in 2019 at 64.2%, while the largest increase was recorded in 2018 at 129.0%.
