The Croatian market for twine, cordage, ropes and cables in volume terms experienced fluctuations between 2018 and 2024, starting at 1 407 t and ending at 1 288 t. After reaching a peak of 1 410 t in 2019, market volume declined over the following years, hitting a low of 1 230 t in 2023 before a partial recovery.

Domestic production varied significantly during this period, from 217 t to a high of 257 t in 2022, followed by a sharp drop to 194 t in 2023. Imports, which form the largest supply source, gradually decreased from 1 242 t to 1 151 t, while exports more than doubled from 52 t to 93 t, indicating a growing outward trade.

In monetary value, the market oscillated between $6.7 million in 2018 and $6.6 million in 2024, with a notable peak of $7.3 million in 2022. The value of exports showed particularly strong growth, rising from $385 000 to over $1.0 million, reflecting an increase in the unit value of products sold abroad.

Croatia's production of twine, cordage, ropes and cables declined after two years of growth. In 2019, output reached its peak at 1 844 K $ US, but then fell sharply by 17.6% year-on-year to 1 520 K $ US in 2020. Over the period from 2017 to 2020, production decreased by 4%, averaging an annual decline of 1.3%. The largest increase occurred in 2018, with a rise of 10.9%.

In 2020, Croatia produced 202.5 tonnes of twine, cordage, ropes and cables, marking a significant decline of 12.8% compared to 2019. From 2017 to 2020, production fell by 16.8%, with a compound annual growth rate of -6.0%. The largest increase was recorded in 2019, at 7.2%.

Croatia's export volume of twine, cordage, ropes and cables totalled 65 tonnes in 2020, representing a notable decrease of 11.2% from the previous year. Over the 2017-2020 period, exports dropped by 8.4%, with a compound annual growth rate of -2.9%. The lowest volume was in 2018 at 52 tonnes, while the highest was in 2019 at 73 tonnes. The largest decline occurred in 2018, falling by 26.2%, whereas the largest increase was in 2019, rising by 39.6%.

From 2017 to 2020, Slovenia, Montenegro, and Bosnia and Herzegovina were the leading destinations for Croatia's exports of twine, cordage, ropes and cables in volume terms. Slovenia accounted for 29.6% of exports, Montenegro for 25.6%, and Bosnia and Herzegovina for 21.5%. Together, these three countries represented 76.6% of total export flows.

Croatia's exports of twine, cordage, ropes and cables in value terms increased in 2020, following a two-year decline. The export value rose by 12.6% year-on-year to 411 K $ US in 2020. Between 2017 and 2020, exports grew by 4.6%, averaging an annual increase of 1.5%. The lowest value was recorded in 2019 at 365 K $ US, which also saw the largest decline of 5.3%.

Throughout 2017-2020, Montenegro, Slovenia, and Bosnia and Herzegovina formed the key group of partners for Croatia's exports of twine, cordage, ropes and cables in value terms. Montenegro accounted for 21.6% of exports, Slovenia for 15.9%, and Bosnia and Herzegovina for 15.0%. Collectively, they represented 52.5% of total export flows.

From 2017 to 2020, Germany, Italy, and Czechia were the main sources for Croatia's imports of twine, cordage, ropes and cables in volume terms. Germany accounted for 28.0% of imports, Italy for 21.7%, and Czechia for 16.0%. Together, these three countries made up 65.7% of total import flows.

Over the 2017-2020 period, imports decreased by 17.3%, with an average annual decline of 6.1%. The highest value was recorded in 2018 at 5 290 K $ US, which also saw the largest increase of 0.0%. The largest decline occurred in 2019, at 11.1%.

In the period from 2017 to 2020, Germany, Italy, and Czechia were the primary sources for Croatia's imports of twine, cordage, ropes and cables in value terms. Germany accounted for 26.9% of imports, Italy for 24.0%, and Czechia for 11.6%. Collectively, these three countries represented 62.5% of total import flows.
