The Croatian market for knotted netting and made up nets experienced significant fluctuations between 2018 and 2021. Market volume, measured in physical terms, fell sharply to 458 t in 2020 before recovering strongly to 655 t the following year. After a subsequent contraction in 2022, the market entered a period of expansion.

Growth resumed in 2023, with market volume increasing by 14% to 469 t. This upturn was supported by a 19% rise in the value of imports alongside a 16% drop in export value, making more goods available domestically. The market continued to grow in 2024, reaching 564 t, as global industry shifts toward sustainable fishing net materials and advances in knitting technology influenced supply and demand.

Croatia's exports of knotted netting and made-up nets in volume terms declined for the third consecutive year. In 2020, the country exported 212.8 t, which was 20.6% lower than in 2019. Between 2017 and 2020, export volumes fell by 39.9%, equivalent to an average annual decrease of 15.6%.

From 2017 to 2020, Greece, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Slovenia remained the top buyers of Croatia's knotted netting and made-up nets in volume terms. Greece accounted for 56.4% of exports, Bosnia and Herzegovina for 16.5%, and Slovenia for 12.4%. Together, these three countries made up 85.3% of Croatia's total exports in kind.

The lowest value was recorded in 2018 at 2 306 K $ US, when exports fell by 19.4%, marking the largest decline in the period.

The highest volume was recorded in 2018 at 660.2 t, when imports increased by 12.4%, the largest rise in the period.
