Earlier Report Observations

The Philippine turkey meat market volume increased from 4 040 t in 2018 to 4 132 t in 2019, supported by rising imports of frozen meat under stringent hygiene and temperature control regulations. However, volume collapsed to 2 720 t in 2020 when the COVID-19 pandemic disrupted global supply chains, hampering import logistics and distribution.

Market volume recovered to 3 295 t in 2021 as consumers shifted toward more affordable poultry meat and new frozen convenience products entered the market. This upturn reversed in 2022, with volume falling to 2 229 t after the government applied a 40% tariff on fresh and frozen turkey meat to shield domestic production, which significantly restrained imports.

Volume rose again to 2 453 t in 2023, helped by the January 2023 extension of preferential tariffs for mechanically deboned turkey and chicken meat, which eased import costs. Growing investments in cold-chain infrastructure and increasing consumer demand for antibiotic-free and healthier meat options further supported the market expansion.
