The market for fresh, chilled, or frozen turkey meat and offal in Western Asia experienced a general contraction from 2018 to 2023, with total volume falling from 190 thousand tons to 157 thousand tons. This decline was not uniform, however, as the market saw a slight recovery in 2020 followed by a sharper drop in 2021 before stabilizing and showing modest growth in the final two years of the period.

A key pressure point occurred in 2021 when import prices for turkey meat in the Middle East region surged by 20%. This significant increase in cost likely dampened import flows, contributing to the market's contraction that year. Following this shock, the market volume found a new equilibrium in 2022 before edging upward in 2023.

The latter period was accompanied by increased export activity from Turkey, a major regional producer, with its exports of relevant meat and offal rising by nearly 5% in 2023. This growth in external trade occurred alongside a broader, long-term regional trend of declining imports for frozen turkey cuts, which form the bulk of the import structure.

In 2018, production reached its peak at 174.5 thousand tons, marking a significant 25.6% increase from the previous year. However, 2019 saw the largest decline of 11.0%, followed by a further 9.3% drop in 2020, bringing production down to 140.9 thousand tons.

In 2018, production peaked at 354.2 million US dollars, with a substantial 49.9% increase from the year before. By 2020, the value had dropped to 270.3 million US dollars, representing a sharp 23.4% decline compared to 2019. Overall, from 2017 to 2020, production value grew by 14.4%, averaging 4.6% per year.

From 2017 to 2020, the export structure for turkey meat and offal in Western Asia was highly diversified. Russia accounted for 4.7% of exports, Benin for 4.0%, and Tajikistan for 3.3%, totaling just 11.9% of all exports. The remaining 88.1% was spread across numerous smaller partner countries.

From 2017 to 2020, Belgium was the largest supplier of turkey meat and offal to Western Asia, accounting for 12.3% of imports in kind, followed by Brazil at 7.0% and the United States at 5.8%.
