Earlier Report Observations
Philippine goat meat production fluctuated between 2018 and 2023, declining from 33 859 t in 2018 to 31 556 t in 2020, then partially recovering to 32 136 t in 2021 before dropping again to 30 969 t in 2022 and rising to 32 240 t in 2023. A slight decrease in the goat population in 2018 contributed to the initial dip, while government investments in artificial insemination and technology transfer from 2021 onward supported subsequent recovery.
Government and research institutions, including DOST-PCAARRD, actively backed the industry through carcass standardization and the promotion of halal protocols, enhancing competitiveness and market alignment. Growing demand for halal goat meat and the sector's recognition as a sunrise industry laid the groundwork for long-term development, despite short-term production volatility.
