Earlier Report Observations

Ukrainian triticale production and market volume declined steadily from 2018 to 2021, with output falling from 47 000 tons to 32 280 tons and the market shrinking from 46 277 tons to 34 264 tons. This period marked a consistent downward trend in the sector's scale.

The full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine in February 2022 drastically cut agricultural output, reducing triticale production by nearly half to 27 130 tons and slashing the market volume to 25 813 tons. The war directly impacted sowing areas for winter crops, which were forecast to be only 70% of the 2022 level for the 2023 harvest, severely constraining supply.

Market contraction continued into 2023, with volume dropping to 15 642 tons amid the ongoing conflict. During this period, the new winter triticale variety 'Yegor' was registered in Ukraine, indicating continued breeding efforts and product development within the challenged market.
