Despite the downturn, industry innovation continued with France introducing seven new triticale varieties in 2023 focused on higher yields and disease resistance, while Italy saw triticale used in biogas plants, creating a novel demand segment.

In 2024, the European market signaled a recovery after three years of decline, with new variety registrations in France emphasizing climate adaptation. However, organic triticale harvests in France halved, reflecting shifting consumption patterns and export flows.

The lowest production volume was recorded in 2018 at 11 429 K t, which represented the largest decline of 18.7% during this period. The most substantial increase occurred in 2019, with production rising by 14.5%.
