The market showed signs of stabilization in 2022, as production held near 23 568 t, before a slight decrease to 22 816 t in 2023. Over this period, the overall production volume receded from its 2019 high.

In 2024, triticale gained renewed interest in regions like South Africa due to its agronomic strengths, including drought tolerance and suitability for poor soils. Concurrently, global geopolitical tensions and energy supply challenges continued to shape the broader grain market environment.

Looking at the broader period from 2017 to 2020, production grew by 21.4%, which translates to an average annual increase of 6.7%. The lowest production level was recorded in 2018 at 19 340 tonnes, while the peak occurred in 2019 with 31 062 tonnes. The most substantial year-over-year growth was observed in 2019, when production surged by 60.6%.
