The treenuts market in Tajikistan expanded from 4 450 t in 2018 to 5 738 t in 2021. Early in the period, the lack of large-scale industrial walnut orchards limited production capacity, while retail prices for walnuts remained 5% higher than in neighboring Uzbekistan, influencing domestic demand. Despite these factors, market volume grew steadily through 2021.

After a contraction to 5 351 t in 2022, the market recovered to 5 817 t in 2023. That year saw advances in drying and packaging technologies alongside the expansion of export routes, which bolstered market activity. Increased production of vegetables and melons also contributed to broader agricultural sector growth, indirectly supporting the treenuts segment.

In 2024, exports of dried fruits and nuts reached 90.1 thousand tons. The sector began organizing industrial nut and pistachio plantations using foreign varieties, and from September 1, 2024, mandatory country-of-origin labeling for fruit and vegetable products was introduced, altering product presentation and consumer information.

Tajikistan's treenuts exports declined for the third consecutive year. In 2020, exports fell to 270 tonnes, marking a sharp decrease of 30.6% from the previous year. Over the period from 2017 to 2020, exports dropped by 86.9%, with a compound annual growth rate of -49.2%.

From 2017 to 2020, Kazakhstan, Turkey, and Afghanistan were the top destinations for Tajikistan's treenuts exports in volume terms. Kazakhstan accounted for 46.0% of exports, Turkey for 31.5%, and Afghanistan for 11.6%. Together, these three countries made up 89.2% of total export flows.

Treenuts shipments from Tajikistan declined for the third consecutive year. In 2020, exports amounted to 276 thousand US dollars, representing an abrupt reduction of 50.2% year-over-year. Between 2017 and 2020, exports decreased by 83%, with a compound annual growth rate of -44.7%.

From 2017 to 2020, Turkey, Kazakhstan, and Afghanistan consistently led as the top destinations for Tajikistan's treenuts exports in value terms. Turkey accounted for 63.4% of exports, Kazakhstan for 13.0%, and Afghanistan for 7.9%. Collectively, these three countries represented 84.3% of total export flows.

Tajikistan's treenuts import volume increased for the third consecutive year. In 2020, imports reached 271 tonnes, reflecting an uptick of 9.8% compared to the previous year. Between 2017 and 2020, imports surged by 487.9%, equating to an annualized growth rate of 80.5%.

From 2017 to 2020, Iran, Turkey, and China were the main sources for Tajikistan's treenuts imports in volume terms. Iran accounted for 53.5% of imports, Turkey for 25.9%, and China for 14.8%. Together, these three countries comprised 94.3% of total import flows.

From 2017 to 2020, Turkey, Iran, and China continued to be the primary suppliers of treenuts to Tajikistan in value terms. Turkey accounted for 44.1% of imports, Iran for 33.3%, and China for 18.3%. Jointly, these three countries formed 95.8% of total imports.
