Production of fresh melons and papayas in Tajikistan increased from 642 000 t in 2018 to 701 000 t in 2019, reflecting a recovery in agricultural output after the economic and political crises of the 1990s that had previously constrained the sector. Market volume followed a similar trajectory, reaching 701 000 t in 2019.

After a correction to 659 000 t in 2020, the market gradually expanded to 681 000 t by 2022 before stabilizing near 669 000 t in 2023. By that year, rising investment in industrial production and growing trade turnover with Russia supported fruit exports, helping to offset a slight dip in domestic output.
