Armenia's tomato production increased for the second consecutive year. In 2020, the country produced 183.7 thousand tons of tomatoes, marking a 15.7% increase compared to the previous year. However, looking at the broader period from 2017 to 2020, production actually decreased by 21.6%, which translates to an average annual decline of 7.8%. The lowest production level was recorded in 2018 at 138.1 thousand tons, with the largest year-on-year drop of 41.0% occurring that same year.

Exports tomato from Armenia

In 2020, Armenia exported 24 790 tons of tomatoes, showing a modest 1.2% increase from the previous year. The lowest export volume was recorded in 2019 at 24 484 tons, while the highest was in 2018 at 36 039 tons. The largest decline in exports occurred in 2019 with a 32.1% drop, whereas the biggest increase was in 2018 with a 45.5% rise.

From 2017 to 2020, Russia was the dominant and nearly exclusive destination for Armenia's tomato exports, accounting for 99.9% of the total volume.

The import market exhibited volatility over the observed period. Import volumes were at their lowest in 2017 and reached their highest in 2019, with a 9 392-fold difference between these years. In 2020, Armenia imported 2 079 tons of tomatoes, which was a sharp decline of 44.7% compared to the previous year. The maximum import volume was recorded in 2019 at 3 757 tons, and the largest increase occurred in 2018 with a staggering 647 160.3% rise.

Armenia's tomato imports increased for the third consecutive year. In 2020, the country imported tomatoes worth 25 394 thousand US dollars, reflecting a 3.3% uptick from the prior year. Over the period from 2017 to 2020, imports surged by 182 357.6%, which equates to an average annual growth rate of 1 122.0%.
