State-backed company ÇAYKUR played a significant role throughout the period, expanding its production capacity. Regulatory changes also shaped the industry, including a 2018 ban on unpackaged and non-hygienic tea sales that made packaging mandatory, followed by tightened hygiene standards and updated packaging rules. New segments such as ready-to-drink iced tea emerged, while consumer preferences increasingly shifted toward organic, vegan, and additive-free options, with digital marketing and sustainable packaging materials gaining traction.

In 2020, Turkey produced 283.5 thousand tonnes of tea in packings of 3 kg or less, marking a slight increase of 0.7% compared to 2019. Over the 2017-2020 period, production grew by 9%, with a compound annual growth rate of 2.9%. The highest production level was recorded in 2018 at 296.1 thousand tonnes, which saw the largest increase of 13.9%. In contrast, 2019 experienced the largest decline of 4.9%.

In 2020, the output value of tea in packings of 3 kg or less in Turkey was 1 305 million US dollars, showing a moderate increase of 9.1% from the previous year. However, over the 2017-2020 period, production value decreased by 6.3%, with a compound annual growth rate of 2.1%. The lowest export volume was recorded in 2018 at 2 381 tonnes, which saw the largest decline of 47.6%. In 2019, exports rebounded with the largest increase of 39.6%.

From 2017 to 2020, Belgium, Germany, and Cyprus formed the core of Turkey's tea exports in kind. Belgium accounted for 40.5% of exports, Germany for 14.6%, and Cyprus for 7.9%, together representing 63.0% of total export flows.

The lowest value was recorded in 2018 at 11 936 thousand US dollars, which saw the largest decline of 50.9%. In 2019, exports showed the largest increase of 18.3%.
