Earlier Report Observations

Between 2018 and 2020, the market volume for tea in packings ≤3 kg in Brazil contracted from 567 т to 514 т. This decline coincided with the expansion of the ready-to-drink (RTD) tea segment, which attracted consumers seeking convenience and may have diverted some demand away from traditional packaged tea. Concurrently, broader consumer shifts towards healthier lifestyles and premium products were noted, though they did not offset the overall volume reduction in this specific segment.

From 2021 onward, the market recovered and grew, reaching 561 т by 2023. This turnaround was initially fueled by the entry of new players and the launch of innovative, health-oriented functional teas. Subsequently, a strong industry focus on sustainable and biodegradable packaging, exemplified by major brand commitments like Lipton's conversion to paper-based materials, resonated with environmentally conscious consumers. The rising preference for specialty, herbal, and functional teas, coupled with packaging innovations tailored for e-commerce, further stimulated market expansion through 2024.
