Earlier Report Observations

Turkish fresh quince production increased from 176.5 thousand tons in 2018 to 189.3 thousand tons in 2020. This growth was supported by favorable climatic conditions in the Aegean region, where popular varieties like 'Eshme' and 'Lemon Quince' are cultivated. Ongoing state-backed agricultural policies and regional production incentives helped maintain output stability, allowing the sector to overcome logistics and supply chain disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020.

In 2021, production rose to 192.0 thousand tons, while market volume slightly decreased to 169.6 thousand tons as government export incentives and upgraded quality standards channeled more produce to foreign markets, particularly in Europe. By 2022, production reached 197.5 thousand tons and market volume grew to 177.2 thousand tons, driven by rising consumer preference for organic and local products and the expansion of digital sales channels for fresh produce.

Production moderated to 192.2 thousand tons in 2023, with market volume at 173.1 thousand tons. Logistics challenges arising from Russia's blockade of sea ports affected export flows, yet Turkey managed to sustain significant fresh fruit exports, including quinces. The implementation of EU‑aligned labeling and packaging standards further supported export quality during this period.
