Between 2018 and 2021, the aubergine market in Turkey remained relatively stable, with market volume fluctuating between 799 thousand tons and 811 thousand tons. Production levels hovered around 832-836 thousand tons, while exports gradually increased, reaching 34 thousand tons in 2021.

In 2022, market volume dropped sharply to 755 thousand tons as production fell to 781 thousand tons. This decline was driven by supply shortages caused by adverse weather conditions in key growing regions like Antalya, where greenhouse damage reduced output. Simultaneously, production costs surged due to a three-to-fourfold increase in fuel and fertilizer prices, squeezing producers. The Russia-Ukraine war further disrupted export flows and contributed to domestic price volatility, making aubergines a luxury item for many consumers.

The market rebounded in 2023, with volume recovering to 786 thousand tons and production rising to 818 thousand tons. Export levels also increased to 31 thousand tons, indicating improved supply conditions.

The lowest production level was recorded in 2019 at 822.7 K t, while the largest decline occurred in 2018 with a drop of 5.4%.

After two years of growth, Turkey's aubergine production value declined. In 2020, the output was valued at 520.3 M $ US, down 5.0% from 2019. Between 2017 and 2020, production value increased by 8.2%, with a compound annual growth rate of 2.7%. The peak value was reached in 2019 at 547.9 M $ US, which also saw the largest increase of 8.2%.

From 2017 to 2020, Georgia, Germany, and Syria were the primary destinations for Turkey's aubergine exports in kind, accounting for 53.3% of the total. Georgia led with 27.4%, followed by Germany at 15.0%, and Syria at 11.0%.
