Earlier Report Observations

From 2018 to 2020, the tallow market in the CIS contracted from 31 965 t to 22 500 t. Initial market conditions were supported by CIS customs legislation and tariff preferences within the free trade zone, which facilitated agricultural trade. However, subsequent changes in external trade structures and shifting consumer preferences for animal-based products contributed to the decline, a trend that continued into 2021 as the COVID-19 pandemic disrupted supply chains and consumption, leading to a further slight decrease to 21 589 t.

The market rebounded sharply in 2022, expanding to 35 135 t. This growth was driven by the continued effect of CIS tariff preferences and a growing consumer shift toward environmentally friendly and certified products, which stimulated demand. The recovery was reversed in 2023 when sanctions and currency fluctuations impaired import and export flows, causing the market volume to fall to 27 857 t.

Factors for 2024 include the activation of the CIS free trade zone and the entry of new players in related industries, indicating ongoing dynamic conditions within the regional market.
