In 2018, Iraq's sugar beet production stood at 32 692 tons. The domestic sugar sector faced a significant production shortfall, with annual sugar imports covering an estimated gap of 500 000 tons, partly due to low productivity in sugar beet and sugarcane cultivation.

Production rose to 38 040 tons in 2019 but fell sharply to 31 720 tons in 2020. Output then stabilized around 31 600 to 32 139 tons in 2021-2022 before increasing to 35 100 tons in 2023. Market volume closely tracked domestic production, as imports remained minimal throughout the period.

Iraq's sugar beet production saw a two-year increase before declining. In 2019, production reached its peak at 38 040 tonnes, marking a 16.4% rise from the previous year. However, by 2020, output fell to 31 720 tonnes, representing a significant 16.6% decrease compared to 2019.
