Earlier Report Observations

Sugar beet production in Azerbaijan reached 277 thousand tons in 2018 but declined to 219 thousand tons the following year. Starting in 2020, the implementation of a 2017 presidential decree strengthened state support for beet growers, contributing to a recovery in output to 234 thousand tons that year.

After a dip to 177 thousand tons in 2021, production rebounded to 211 thousand tons in 2022 as agrotechnical measures and intensified pest control improved yields. The market volume stabilized at 206 thousand tons in 2023, supported by high nationwide productivity of 445 quintals per hectare and the expanded use of modern Pivot irrigation systems.

Throughout the period, state subsidies for fertilizers and pesticides provided consistent backing to farmers, while the operational Imishli Sugar Plant and the activities of the Azerbaijan Sugar Production Union reinforced the domestic processing infrastructure.
