Earlier Report Observations

The Lithuanian sparkling wine market volume grew consistently from 5.7 million liters in 2018 to a peak of 7.8 million liters in 2022, while its value increased from 22.8 million to 33.5 million US dollars. This expansion was fueled by the rising popularity of affordable Italian Prosecco and the dominant position of the non-alcoholic sparkling wine 'Alita', which captured nearly half of the non-alcoholic wine segment. From 2019, local winemakers also placed greater emphasis on using domestic berries and fruits to broaden their sparkling wine offerings.

In 2022, new EU regulations mandated that sparkling wines be produced only by the traditional bottle fermentation method with at least 18 months of lees aging, influencing production practices. At the same time, growing consumer interest in non-alcoholic, organic, and natural sparkling wines supported market premiumization. After 2022, market volume fell by 12% to 6.9 million liters in 2023, though value held steady at 33.7 million dollars. A partial recovery to 7.0 million liters occurred in 2024, accompanied by a 6% rise in value to 35.8 million dollars, indicating a continued shift toward higher-value segments.
