Between 2018 and 2021, Egypt's soybean oilcake production increased from 2 570 тыс. т to 3 313 тыс. т, while market volume expanded from 3 090 тыс. т to 3 249 тыс. т. This growth was driven by rising domestic demand for edible oils, which stimulated oil extraction and consequently boosted oilcake output, alongside government initiatives to stabilize edible oil prices through cooperation with private processors.

Production declined to 3 101 тыс. т in 2022 and fell sharply to 1 771 тыс. т in 2023, with market volume dropping to 2 636 тыс. т. The contraction was exacerbated by the prolonged idling of over 85% of state-owned oilseed crushing plants and unprecedented surges in domestic edible oil prices, which increased input costs and constrained processing activity.

In 2024, imports of soybean oilcake reached 438 тыс. т, influenced by a newly imposed 5% import duty on oilseed residues and ongoing government tenders for vegetable oil imports aimed at securing strategic reserves. These measures reflected continued efforts to manage dependence on imported raw materials while addressing local supply challenges.
