From 2018 to 2023, the Egyptian market for maize bran, sharps and residues experienced notable fluctuations, with volume ranging from a low of 365.6 thousand tons in 2020 to a peak of 449.5 thousand tons in 2023. The initial decline from 387.2 thousand tons in 2018 was followed by stabilization in 2020, before a sharp recovery in 2021.

Market volume movements were primarily influenced by changes in import levels, which varied from 109.5 to 150.7 thousand tons, while domestic production showed consistent annual growth, increasing from 243.6 to 306.6 thousand tons over the period. The surge in imports to 150.7 thousand tons in 2021 contributed to a 17% market expansion, whereas the drop to 89.6 thousand tons in 2022 led to a 10% contraction despite rising production.

By 2023, the market reached its highest point at 449.5 thousand tons, supported by a rebound in imports to 143.0 thousand tons and continued production growth. The overall trend demonstrates the market's sensitivity to import flows alongside steadily expanding domestic output.

Egypt's production of maize bran, sharps, and residues grew for the second year in a row. In 2020, output reached 256.7 K t, up 2.3% from 2019. Over the 2017–2020 period, production rose by 3.4%, averaging an annual growth rate of 1.1%. The lowest production volume was in 2018 at 243.6 K t, which saw the largest decline of 1.9%. In contrast, 2019 recorded the biggest increase at 3.0%.

In 2020, the value of maize bran, sharps, and residues produced in Egypt was 46 065 K $ US, a 20.8% increase from 2019. From 2017 to 2020, production value grew by 9.8%, with an average annual rate of 3.2%. The lowest value was in 2019 at 38 118 K $ US, which also experienced the largest decline of 13.3%.
