The Ukrainian soybean oilcake market volume stood at 611 thousand tonnes in 2018, supported by growing soybean processing and increased export shipments of meal. It stabilized around 608 thousand tonnes in 2019 as higher production was offset by rising exports. However, in 2020, the market volume declined to 535 thousand tonnes due to reduced production.

Market volume recovered to 645 thousand tonnes in 2021, driven by expanded soybean processing. The Russian invasion in 2022 impacted production, lowering the market volume to 595 thousand tonnes, although soybean meal exports remained relatively steady. In 2023, the introduction of a 10% export duty on soybeans and rapeseed stimulated domestic processing, leading to increased meal production and a market volume of 612 thousand tonnes despite higher exports.

Ukraine's soybean oilcake production saw a two-year increase before declining. In 2020, production stood at 1 115 thousand tonnes, marking a 24.4% decrease from the previous year. Over the 2017-2020 period, production grew by 35.9%, with a compound annual growth rate of 10.8%. The peak was reached in 2019 at 1 475 thousand tonnes, which also saw the largest annual increase of 44.3%.

Soybean oilcake production in Ukraine experienced a two-year rise before falling. In 2020, the output was valued at 430.1 million US dollars, down 16.8% from the prior year. From 2017 to 2020, production increased by 49.6%, with a compound annual growth rate of 14.4%. The highest value was recorded in 2019 at 517.1 million US dollars, while the largest annual increase occurred in 2018 at 38.6%.

Exports soybean oilcake to Ukraine

The market showed significant volatility during this period. Export volumes reached their lowest point in 2017 and peaked in 2019, with a 2.8-fold difference between these years. In 2020, Ukraine exported 583.6 thousand tonnes of soybean oilcake, a decrease of 32.9% compared to 2019.
