Earlier Report Observations

Syrian sheep and goat meat production began the period at 282 thousand tons in 2018. Market conditions that year included a surplus in livestock numbers, which facilitated the export of male animals and contributed to lower sacrificial meat prices ahead of Eid al-Adha due to climatic and economic factors.

Production dropped to 254 thousand tons in 2019 before entering a phase of sustained growth. Output climbed to 321 thousand tons in 2020, then rose further to 342 thousand tons in 2021, 392 thousand tons in 2022, and reached 419 thousand tons by 2023. This multi-year expansion reflected a recovery in domestic meat availability without major disruptive events reported in the sources.
