Between 2018 and 2024, Austria's rum import volumes fluctuated significantly, rising from 1.9 million liters in 2018 to a peak of 3.5 million liters in 2022 before falling back to 2.4 million liters by 2024. Export volumes followed a more stable trajectory, remaining between 1.3 and 2.2 million liters throughout the period, with a slight increase observed in 2023.

From 2022 onward, domestic production volume declined from 1.0 million liters to 0.9 million liters, while the total market size contracted sharply from 2.4 million liters to 1.4 million liters. In value terms, however, production revenue increased in 2023, suggesting a shift toward higher-priced offerings even as overall market volume shrank.

By 2024, shifting Austrian consumer preferences toward organic and sustainable products, coupled with the global trend for premiumization and flavored rums, began influencing the market's product mix, supporting value segments despite the broader contraction in consumption volume.

The lowest export volume was recorded in 2019 at 1 269 thousand liters, with the largest year-on-year drop of 8.8% occurring that same year.

From 2017 to 2020, Germany, the Netherlands, and Slovenia consistently led Austria's rum export structure by volume. Germany accounted for 55.9% of exports, the Netherlands for 13.1%, and Slovenia for 4.7%. Together, these three countries represented 73.7% of total export flows.
