The COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 boosted demand for firewood as people spent more time at home, while state-owned forest enterprises like the Orman Genel Müdürlüğü maintained production and supply.

A sharp expansion occurred in 2021, when the market volume jumped by 28% to 22.9 million m³. This surge was primarily driven by rising global energy prices, which made wood a more attractive and competitive heating fuel, stimulating consumption. The following year, the market stabilized near 22.2 million m³ as economic conditions heightened consumer price sensitivity and demand for affordable wood products.

In 2023, the market contracted to 18.1 million m³, a 19% decrease from 2022. This decline coincided with the introduction of a new regulation on transport documents for forest products, which enhanced market transparency and oversight but also affected logistics. Persistent high global energy prices and domestic economic factors continued to shape demand and pricing.
