Between 2018 and 2021, the market volume for non-coniferous wood fuel in Turkey contracted from 4.2 million m³ to 2.3 million m³. This decline coincided with a sharp increase in construction costs from 2021 onward, which likely reduced activity in the building sector—a key consumer of wood-based materials. Earlier, in 2018, the Turkish government had launched projects to promote energy-efficient wooden buildings, initially supporting demand for timber.

The market rebounded to 3.4 million m³ in 2022, driven by concentration in the petroleum fuel market and subsequent regulatory measures favoring alternative fuels like wood fuel. However, volume eased slightly to 3.2 million m³ in 2023 as continued rises in construction costs weighed on demand, despite growing encouragement for certified and recycled wood usage.

The highest production level was recorded in 2019 at 3 300 K m³, while the largest year-on-year increase occurred in 2018 at 14.1%.

The export market in value terms exhibited considerable volatility throughout these years. Exports bottomed in 2017 and peaked in 2019, with a remarkable 197-fold difference between these two years.
