Production of coniferous roundwood in Middle Africa remained constant at 3 200 m³ annually from 2018 through 2023. During this period, regional governments, led by Cameroon, implemented a series of measures to restrict log exports and promote domestic timber processing. These included a progressive increase in log export duties from 17.5% to 60% of FOB value between 2017 and 2023, and a ban on log exports enacted in 2022 by Congo Basin countries. Commercial logging focused on about 80 out of 300 available tree species, with enhanced public oversight for efficient forest resource management. The stable production volume suggests that forestry policies emphasized sustainable harvests while redirecting raw materials toward local transformation.

In 2024, further regulatory steps were taken, including a ministerial order reclassifying tree species to boost local processing and a raise of the log export duty to 75% of FOB value. A ban on exporting 76 tree species as logs was also decreed, with implementation set for January 1, 2028. Trade data for 2024 shows imports of 5 615 m³ and exports of only 50 m³, reflecting the ongoing impact of export restrictions and the region's net importer status for coniferous roundwood.
