Between 2018 and 2023, the volume of the Serbian fresh quince market fell by 13%, decreasing from 12 249 t to 10 652 t. The decline was most pronounced in the early part of the period, followed by stabilization and a slight rebound in the final year.

This contraction was primarily driven by a reduction in domestic production, which dropped from 12 318 t to 10 603 t over the same span. Shifts in trade, including a peak in exports of 961 t in 2022, also influenced the amount of quinces available on the local market.

In 2020, Serbia produced 11,120 tonnes of quinces, showing relative stability compared to the previous year. Over the period from 2017 to 2020, production grew by 7.2%, with an average annual growth rate of 2.3%. The highest production level was recorded in 2018 at 12,318 tonnes, which represented an 18.7% increase from the prior year. In contrast, 2019 saw the largest decline of 10.1%.

The export market for quinces from Serbia exhibited significant volatility during these years. Exports reached their peak in 2018 at 503.1 tonnes, then fell to their lowest point in 2019 at 186.9 tonnes, marking a 2.7-fold difference between these two years. This decline in 2019 was the largest at 62.9%. In 2020, exports rebounded to 418.3 tonnes, representing a substantial increase of 123.8% compared to 2019.

From 2017 to 2020, Bosnia and Herzegovina was the dominant buyer of quinces from Serbia, accounting for 75.6% of total exports in volume, with other countries making up the remainder.

The export market in value terms also showed volatility over the observed period. Export values peaked in 2017 and reached their minimum in 2019, with a threefold difference between these years. The largest decline occurred in 2019 at 62.2%. In 2020, export values surged to 153.1 thousand US dollars, marking a sharp increase of 110.5% compared to 2019, when the minimum value was recorded at 72.7 thousand US dollars.

Over the period from 2017 to 2020, imports decreased by 32.1%, equivalent to an annualized decline of 12.1%. The maximum import volume was recorded in 2018 at 433.8 tonnes, which saw a 6.9% increase from the prior year. In contrast, 2019 experienced the largest decline of 40.5%, with imports dropping to their lowest point at 258.2 tonnes.
