Between 2018 and 2020, the market volume for prepared or preserved pineapples in India declined from 13 257 t to 12 287 t. This contraction coincided with a shift toward fresh pineapple consumption, as improvements in post-harvest handling and packaging reduced losses and increased the availability of fresh fruit. State-supported marketing cooperatives and horticulture development programs further strengthened the fresh pineapple supply chain, drawing demand away from processed products.

From 2021 onward, the market recovered, reaching 13 996 t by 2023. Growth was driven by increased pineapple production in states like Kerala, where tax exemptions for agricultural income encouraged farmers to expand cultivation. Rising demand from northern Indian markets and the planning of new processing facilities under public-private partnerships boosted processing capacity. International trade changes, such as the U.S. tariff on Costa Rican pineapple, also influenced market dynamics, supporting domestic production.

Exports reached their lowest point in 2019 at 68 tonnes and peaked in 2018 at 207 tonnes, representing a 3.1-fold difference between these years. In 2020, India's exports of prepared or preserved pineapples stood at 175 tonnes, a significant increase of 159.5% compared to 2019. The largest decline occurred in 2019, with a drop of 67.4%.
