The market for prepared or preserved pineapples in Eastern Asia expanded significantly in 2019, reaching 141 883 tons, but contracted in 2020 to 116 954 tons. The decline coincided with higher logistics and storage costs that raised fresh fruit prices, while South Korea's tariff reduction on imported pineapples aimed to ease consumer price pressures.

Market volume recovered to 132 744 tons in 2021, fueled by a 70% surge in pineapple sales in South Korea amid high fruit prices and the implementation of allocation tariffs to stabilize supply. In China, growing domestic and international demand under the RCEP trade agreement, along with the national geographical indication status for Shenwan Pineapple, supported production growth. By 2022, record pineapple output of 796 000 tons in Guangdong's Xuwen County, backed by local policy and favorable climate, helped push the regional market to 133 636 tons.

The upward trend continued in 2023 as the market volume rose to 138 769 tons, reflecting sustained production capacity and demand in the region.

In 2020, exports reached 9 497 thousand US dollars, a significant 15.1% increase over the previous year. However, from 2017 to 2020, export value decreased by 58.3%, with an average annual decline of 25.3%. The lowest point was in 2019 at 8 253 thousand US dollars, while the sharpest drop occurred in 2018 with a 48.9% decrease.
