In 2020, the region produced 3 148 tonnes, which represents a 5.1% increase from the previous year. Looking at the period from 2017 to 2020, production surged by 106.4%, with an average annual growth rate of 27.3%.

After rising for two consecutive years, Northern Africa's exports of prepared mushrooms and truffles fell in 2020. That year, exports totaled 19 tonnes, a sharp decline of 63.7% compared to 2019. Over the 2017-2020 period, exports dropped by 45.8%, which translates to an annualized decrease of 18.5%. The peak was in 2019 at 52 tonnes, while the largest year-on-year increase occurred in 2018, at 22.8%.

From 2017 to 2020, the main destinations for Northern Africa's prepared mushrooms and truffles exports were France, Spain, and Canada. France accounted for 32.6% of exports in volume, Spain for 15.2%, and Canada for 8.4%. Together, these three countries made up 56.2% of total exports.

Following two years of growth, Northern Africa's export value for prepared mushrooms and truffles declined in 2020. Exports that year stood at 235 thousand US dollars, a significant drop of 68.4% from 2019. Between 2017 and 2020, export value decreased by 39.5%, with an average annual decline of 15.4%. The highest value was recorded in 2019 at 746 thousand US dollars, which also saw the largest increase of 66.1%.

In terms of value from 2017 to 2020, France, Spain, and Canada were the top buyers of prepared mushrooms and truffles from Northern Africa. France's share was 42.1% of total export value, Spain's was 22.0%, and Canada's was 14.3%. Combined, these three countries represented 78.5% of all export value.
