A drop to 392.4 thousand tons in 2021 was followed by a sharp rise to 467.7 thousand tons in 2022, before stabilizing at 464.3 thousand tons in 2023. These movements were primarily driven by variations in imports, which fell to 98.5 thousand tons in 2021 before rebounding to 164.7 thousand tons in 2022.

In 2024, the local company Fanalamanga entered a collaboration with a Chinese firm for mushroom production and export to China, indicating further sector development and access to new markets. This partnership includes seed supply and planting on pine trees, responding to growing global demand.
