Earlier Report Observations

Between 2018 and 2023, Azerbaijan's pork market volume underwent significant changes. The market started at 2 091 tonnes in 2018, stabilized near 2 040 tonnes in 2019, then contracted sharply to 1 146 tonnes in 2020.

From 2021 onward, a recovery trend took hold, with volume rising to 1 464 tonnes, then to 1 694 tonnes in 2022, and reaching 1 769 tonnes in 2023. Despite this growth, the market remained below its pre-2020 size.

Domestic production of pork remained relatively constant throughout the period, fluctuating between 480 and 500 tonnes annually. Therefore, the market's movements were largely attributable to import volumes, which fell dramatically in 2020 before gradually increasing again.
