The market volume for fresh plums and sloes in Armenia rose from 19 718 т in 2018 to a peak of 33 256 т in 2022. This growth occurred alongside a persistent consumer preference for undergrown green plums, a local specialty that drives demand each spring. Regional trade flows, including imports of plums from Georgia, also supplemented domestic supply during this period.

After the 2022 high, the market contracted to 27 738 т in 2023. Traditional consumption of fresh and dried plums remained a feature of the Armenian market, but the sector did not report specific developments to explain the decline in volume that year.

Armenia's production of plums and sloes has increased for the second year in a row. In 2020, the country produced 24 961 tons, marking a modest 7.5% rise compared to 2019. Looking at the period from 2017 to 2020, overall production grew by 3.9%, which translates to an average annual increase of 1.3%. The lowest production level was recorded in 2018 at 21 164 tons, when output fell by 11.9%. In contrast, 2019 saw the largest increase, with production jumping by 9.8%.

Export volumes showed significant fluctuations during this period. The lowest point was in 2019, with only 388 tons shipped, representing a sharp 75.1% decline. By 2020, exports rebounded dramatically to 2 041 tons, a 426.6% increase over the previous year. This created a 5.3-fold difference between the peak in 2020 and the trough in 2019.

From 2017 to 2020, Russia dominated Armenia's plum and sloe exports in volume terms, consistently representing 98.7% of the total shipments.

Export values experienced considerable volatility. The lowest value was recorded in 2019 at 231 thousand US dollars, reflecting a 71.6% drop. In 2020, exports surged to 1 656 thousand US dollars, a 617.4% increase compared to 2019. This resulted in a 7.2-fold gap between the high in 2020 and the low in 2019.

This created a 284-fold difference between these years. The largest decline occurred in 2019, with a 49.8% decrease, whereas 2018 recorded the biggest increase at 4,010.0%.

Between 2017 and 2020, Turkey and Iran were the dominant sources for Armenia's plum and sloe imports by volume, together making up 91.5% of total inflows, with other countries accounting for the remainder.

From 2017 to 2020, Turkey and Iran were the key partners for Armenia's plum and sloe imports by value. Turkey contributed 54.4% of the total, Iran 36.3%, and together they accounted for 90.6%, with other countries making up the balance.
