The Armenian fig market showed significant fluctuations between 2018 and 2023. After a volume of 1 222 t in 2018, the market contracted sharply to 836 t in 2019. From 2020 onwards, a sustained recovery and expansion took place, with the market growing to 1 082 t in 2020, 1 473 t in 2021, 1 835 t in 2022, and reaching 2 181 t by 2023.

This upward trajectory coincided with a rise in domestic fig production, which increased from 1 227 t in 2018 to 2 095 t in 2023. Over the same period, export volumes peaked in 2020 and then declined, while import levels also fell after their 2020 high.

Armenia's fig production has grown for the third year in a row. In 2019, the country produced 1 234 tonnes of figs, which increased by 38.8% to reach 1 713 tonnes in 2020. Over the four-year period from 2017 to 2020, production rose by 88.5%, with an average annual growth rate of 23.5%.

Exports in kind, t

Armenia's fig exports have expanded for the third consecutive year. In 2019, the country exported 906 tonnes of figs, and this figure surged by 88.3% to 1 706 tonnes in 2020. From 2017 to 2020, export volumes grew by an impressive 1 600.9%, translating to an average annual increase of 157.2%.

Armenia's fig imports have increased for the third consecutive year. In 2019, imports totaled 508 tonnes, and this jumped by 111.6% to 1 075 tonnes in 2020. Between 2017 and 2020, import volumes grew by 339.7%, equivalent to an average annual rate of 63.8%.
