Earlier Report Observations
From 2018 to 2019, the pea market in Iran maintained stable volume around 16 000 t, while its market value rose by 21% in 2019. This increase in value was driven by improved packaging and labeling practices, which enhanced product quality and consumer appeal. At the same time, the widespread adoption of freezing techniques helped sustain pea supply outside the harvest season, ensuring consistent availability.
In 2020, market volume dropped to 15 933 t due to restrictions from international sanctions, which disrupted supply chains and access to resources. By 2021, the market partially recovered to 16 029 t, supported by legislative changes in packaging and labeling that increased transparency, as well as growing demand for processed pea products following shifts in consumer preferences.
During 2022-2023, market volume continued to decline, reaching 15 640 t in 2023. The main contributing factor was inflation and exchange rate fluctuations, which raised production costs and reduced product affordability for end consumers. Despite ongoing investments in pea production and processing aimed at improving quality and variety, overall market volume contracted.
