Earlier Report Observations
The market for fresh or chilled peas in Cyprus contracted significantly between 2018 and 2023, with total volume falling from 766 tonnes to 470 tonnes, a decline of 39%. The most severe single-year drop occurred in 2023, when the market shrank by 31%.
This reduction was led by a steady decrease in domestic pea production, which fell from 760 tonnes to 440 tonnes over the period. Pea imports, while variable, increased from 6 tonnes to 30 tonnes but were insufficient to offset the loss in local output. In 2024, imports rose sharply to 150 tonnes.
