The COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 further accelerated online sales of fresh produce and heightened preference for local items.

In 2021, market volume contracted to 4,934 t, even as dietary trends favored healthy eating. The following year saw the publication of Cyprus's Gastronomic Map by the Ministry of Agriculture, promoting traditional products, but significant food price increases due to inflation tempered consumption, leaving the market size nearly unchanged at 4,939 t.

By 2023, the market rebounded to 5,382 t, a 9% increase, largely fueled by a 20% rise in imports, while domestic production edged downward.

Foreign supplies of carrots and turnips to Cyprus increased for the second consecutive year. In 2020, Cyprus imported 3 431 tons, indicating a 2.7% rise compared to the previous year. Between 2017 and 2020, imports grew by 36.1%, with an annualized growth rate of 10.8%. The lowest import volume was recorded in 2018 at 2 245 tons, which also experienced the largest decline of 10.9%. The most significant increase occurred in 2019, with imports jumping by 48.8%.
