From 2018 to 2023, the palm oil market volume in Togo more than doubled, reaching 250 thousand tons. This growth was primarily fueled by a sharp increase in imports, which rose from 143 thousand tons to 368 thousand tons over the period. Local production remained relatively stable, averaging around 23 thousand tons annually. The expansion occurred alongside government efforts to develop the sector, starting with the Millennium Challenge Corporation's Threshold program in 2018 and followed by substantial funding under the National Development Plan for Oil Palm (PNDF) from 2020 onward, which allocated over 6 billion CFA francs to support production and local processing.

The sector saw significant private investment entering in 2023, with Kalyan Agrovet Investments launching a $65 million palm oil processing plant in Agou. Existing facilities like the AVE PALM unit in Assahoun modernized equipment to improve yields. By 2024, new semi-industrial plants began operations, and a national standard for sustainable palm oil aligned with RSPO principles was introduced, reflecting a broader shift toward local value addition and sustainable practices.
